What THC drinks are
THC-infused non-alcoholic drinks contain delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol and no ethanol. Formats include 12-ounce cans of seltzer, 8-ounce sodas, iced tea, cold brew, 2-ounce shots, and syrups for mixing. A mocktail is a mixed drink with no alcohol. A THC mocktail swaps a measured dose of water-soluble THC for the spirit.
Dose per can and per serving
Read two numbers on the label: milligrams per container and milligrams per serving. Many cans hold 5 mg to 10 mg total. Others hold 2.5 mg. One can may contain one serving or two.
thc infused non alcoholic drinks and mocktails
- 1 mg to 2.5 mg: low dose
- 5 mg: moderate dose
- 10 mg: high dose for a new user
Colorado and California cap one serving at 10 mg. Start at 2.5 mg if you have not used THC in the past 30 days.

Onset and duration
Swallowed THC passes through the stomach and small intestine before it reaches the liver and bloodstream. A drink with standard emulsion takes 30 to 60 minutes to hit. A nano-emulsified drink takes 15 to 30 minutes. Peak effects arrive 1 to 2 hours after the last sip. Effects last 2 to 4 hours. Inhaled THC hits in 5 to 10 minutes and lasts 1 to 3 hours.

Why drinks absorb faster than solid edibles
Solid edibles release THC as the stomach breaks down the food matrix. A liquid leaves the stomach faster. Nano-emulsion breaks THC into droplets under 200 nanometers and coats them with a surfactant. The droplets stay suspended in water and cross into the bloodstream through the mouth lining and gut wall.
Formats that work in a mocktail
- Water-soluble THC powder or liquid: mixes into any cold liquid
- Nano-emulsified syrup: 1 pump or 1 teaspoon per drink
- Canned THC seltzer: use as the base in place of soda water
- Glycerin-based tincture: mixes into water and juice, adds sweetness
Oil-based tinctures and cannabutter do not work in cold drinks. The oil separates and floats. Fat-soluble THC needs a blender and an emulsifier such as lecithin to stay mixed.
Build a mocktail in three parts
- Base: 4 ounces of THC seltzer, or 4 ounces of club soda plus a measured THC dose
- Modifier: 2 ounces of citrus, ginger beer, tonic, or fruit juice
- Garnish: mint, citrus peel, or a salt rim
Ice dilutes the drink. Add the THC last and stir for 5 seconds. Do not shake a carbonated drink.
Label checks
- Total delta-9 THC in milligrams per container
- Serving size and servings per container
- Batch number and production date
- Certificate of analysis from an ISO 17025 lab
- State license number on the package
Storage
Heat, light, and oxygen degrade THC. Keep cans at 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. A closed can holds potency for 6 to 12 months. An opened can loses carbonation in 24 hours. Syrups last 30 days in the refrigerator after opening.
Federal and state rules
The 2018 Farm Bill defines hemp as cannabis with 0.3 percent delta-9 THC or less on a dry weight basis. Hemp-derived THC drinks under that limit sit outside the regulated cannabis market in some states. The Food and Drug Administration has not approved THC as a food additive. States pass their own rules, and those rules change. Check the state where you buy and where you drink.
Safety notes
- Do not drive after drinking THC. Impairment starts at low doses.
- Do not stack THC drinks with alcohol. The two increase impairment.
- Wait 2 hours before a second serving.
- THC passes into breast milk. Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Keep cans away from children. Store in a locked box if the household has minors.
