How to Make Relaxing Cannabis Tea
Cannabis tea relaxes you only when the flower has been heated to activate THC and then simmered with a fat, because cannabinoids do not dissolve in water. Whole bud dropped into hot water tastes grassy and does almost nothing. The method below takes about 45 minutes and yields two to four servings.

What You Need
- 0.25 to 0.5 g dried cannabis flower, lab tested if possible
- 2 cups whole milk, oat milk, or canned coconut milk
- 1 tsp butter, coconut oil, or MCT oil
- Baking sheet and parchment paper
- Saucepan, fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth
- Kitchen thermometer
- Honey, cinnamon, ginger, chamomile, or lavender for flavor
Steps
- Heat the oven to 240 F (115 C).
- Break the flower into small pieces and spread them in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring once at the halfway point.
- Pull the sheet out and let the flower cool for 10 minutes.
- Grind the cooled flower to a coarse powder in a hand grinder.
- Pour the milk into a saucepan and add the butter or oil.
- Warm the milk over low heat until it reads 160 F to 180 F (70 C to 82 C). Do not let it boil.
- Stir the ground flower into the warm milk.
- Hold the mixture at that temperature for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
- Set a strainer lined with cheesecloth over a mug or pitcher.
- Pour the mixture through the strainer, then press the solids with the back of a spoon.
- Discard the spent plant material.
- Stir in honey, cinnamon, or a steeped herbal tea bag while the liquid is hot.
- Drink half a cup and wait 90 minutes before drinking more.
Dosing and Timing
One gram of 20 percent THC flower holds about 200 mg of THC after decarboxylation, so 0.25 g lands near 40 to 50 mg total. Split across two cups, that is roughly 20 mg per cup, which is a heavy dose for a new user. Start with a quarter cup, then wait a full 90 minutes. Infused drinks move through the gut, so effects can take 30 to 120 minutes to appear and last four to eight hours.

Flavor and Effect Add-ins
Chamomile, lemon balm, lavender, and ginger add aroma without changing potency. Vanilla and cocoa cut the herbal taste of the flower. Add these after straining, since a long boil drives off the volatile oils that make them taste good.
Storage and Safety
Keep the finished tea in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to three days and shake it before each pour, because the fat separates. Label the jar with the date and the estimated dose per cup. Store it away from children and pets, and do not drive after drinking. If you take prescription drugs or have a heart condition, talk to a clinician before trying an infused drink.
