How to find marijuana events near you
Check three sources: dispensary event calendars, state-licensed consumption lounges, and ticket platforms. Dispensaries in adult-use states post pop-ups, brand days and vendor markets on their own sites and social accounts. Ticket sites list festivals, cups and trade shows. State cannabis boards publish licensed lounge lists and event permits.
Types of marijuana events
- Dispensary pop-ups and brand days. Entry is free. Vendors hand out samples where state law allows.
- Consumption lounges. Licensed indoor or outdoor spaces. Nevada, California, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, New York and Alaska allow some form of on-site use.
- Festivals and cannabis cups. Paid tickets. Age 21 and up. Product is included at some, not all.
- Trade shows. MJBizCon in Las Vegas draws about 35,000 attendees. Buyers, brands and store staff. Most require a badge and age 21.
- Date events. April 20 and July 10 are the two largest on the calendar.
Rules to check before you go
Bring a government photo ID. Adult-use events require age 21. Medical patients under 21 need a state card. Public consumption is illegal in most states outside a licensed lounge. Open containers in a vehicle are illegal. Driving after use is a DUI in every state.
Cannabis is Schedule I under federal law. Do not carry product across state lines or into an airport. TSA refers cannabis found at a checkpoint to local police.
Cost and logistics
Dispensary events cost nothing. Festivals run $30 to $150. Trade show passes run $300 to $900. Lounge entry runs $10 to $40, and some charge by the hour. Cash works at most venues. Many stores run debit cards through cashless ATMs.
If nothing is close by
Some states ban events that include consumption. Check your state cannabis board site for licensed events. Store menus show what is in stock at shops in your area. Virtual events and webinars cover growing, cooking and state law. Medical dispensaries often host patient education nights that do not appear on ticket sites.
Before you buy a ticket
Confirm three facts: the venue is licensed, the age limit, and what the ticket includes. A licensed event lists a state permit number. Resale tickets for cannabis events are not refundable in most cases.
