How to find the closest dispensary

Open a maps app. Type "cannabis dispensary." The app sorts results by distance from the location your phone reports. Google Maps and Apple Maps use the device GPS fix, not your IP address. If location services are off, the app falls back on the last known location or the center of the map.

The same search returns different results in different states. Cannabis is illegal under federal law. Retail sales run under state licenses. About half of US states issue licenses for adult-use stores. Most other states allow medical cannabis only. A few allow no sales at all.

Steps to get the closest open store

  1. Turn on location services for the maps app, or type a ZIP code. A ZIP code works when you do not want to share GPS.
  2. Search "dispensary" plus the city name. Add "recreational" if you are 21 or older and want adult-use products.
  3. Check the hours. Many stores close by 9 p.m. local time.
  4. Check the menu. Licensed retailers, Eden Cannabis among them, post menus online and take pickup orders. Stock changes during the day.
  5. Bring a government photo ID. Adult-use sales require age 21. Medical sales require a state card or a doctor's certification.

What distance does not tell you

Maps show drive distance, not wait time. A store 2 miles away across a river can take 20 minutes to reach. Some listings are medical-only. Some are delivery-only and have no storefront. Parking matters in dense cities.

Location data

Maps apps ask for precise location. The FTC treats precise geolocation as sensitive data. You can deny the permission and type an address or ZIP code instead. Results stay the same for that area.

If no store appears

Your state may have no licensed retail. Check the state cannabis regulator's list of licensed stores. A store that is not on that list is not legal. Cannabis cannot cross state lines under federal law, so out-of-state delivery is not legal.
