Bring a state ID, driver license, or passport. No ID means no sale. The machine takes cash, or debit in stores that run PIN debit. You get a receipt with tax lines. You get a purchase cap. You get a camera. Vendor software differs by store, so the touchscreen steps change from one machine to the next.
Limits and risks
Vending machines do not skip age checks. Regulators audit them the same way they audit a counter sale. Some states require an employee to finish the transaction. If a machine sells to a minor, the store's license is at risk.
