The pick: 460°F to 500°F
If you want one number, set the rig to 480°F and adjust from there. Live resin carries more monoterpenes than cured resin because the plant is frozen right after harvest and the extraction runs cold. Those aromatic compounds boil off well below the cannabinoids. Push too much heat and you flash the flavor off the nail before it ever reaches your lungs. So the sweet spot sits lower than what most people use for shatter or distillate: roughly 460°F to 500°F, with 480°F as the center point.
That range gives you a thick, creamy hit, the full terpene profile, and enough heat to fully vaporize THC and CBD without scorching. THC vaporizes near 315°F and most cannabinoids are airborne by about 465°F, so 480°F clears the cannabinoid ceiling with headroom left over.
How the heat ranges compare
- 400°F to 450°F, flavor chase: Best terpene retention, thin vapor, small clouds. Great for a gram you want to taste in detail. Some cannabinoids get left behind, so the effect feels lighter.
- 460°F to 500°F, the pick: Full cannabinoid vaporization plus most of the terpene character. This is where live resin earns its price.
- 510°F to 550°F, cloud chasers: Bigger hits and faster extraction, but the delicate monoterpenes burn off first. You taste roasted plant instead of lemon or pine.
- 600°F and up, skip it: Terpenes degrade into harsh irritants and the oil can char. Live resin costs too much for that.
